Instagram President Adam Mosseri announced a new video editing app called Edits. The new app is said to be a direct competitor to CapCut, which became unusable after the TikTok ban. So what will the app offer?
What does “Edits”, Instagram’s rival app to CapCut, offer?
First of all, Mosseri stated that Edits is not only a video editing tool, but also a creativity center. Because Edits will offer a wider range of creative tools, but it is said to appeal to a narrower audience. Here are the highlights of the app:

- A dedicated tab for inspiration
- A high-quality camera
- Advanced editing tools such as green screen and video overlay
- A space to organize creative ideas
- Powerful analytics tools to measure the performance of videos (for example, a live analytics panel that separates follower and non-follower interactions).
Mosseri emphasized that Meta has been working on this application for months and that “Edits will be very different from CapCut”. Commenting on the announcement, users say that with TikTok and other ByteDance-owned apps banned in the US, Meta wants to offer more tools for content creators. Let’s see what other new apps we will see in the coming days.
Edits is currently available for pre-order on the iOS App Store and will be available on March 13, 2025. So, what do you think about this app? Do you think Instagram’s Edits app can replace CapCut? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
