Intel unveiled its 14th Generation Core HX series mobile processors based on the Raptor Lake Refresh family at CES 2024. The new Core i9, i7 and i5 HX processors for high-end laptops and portable workstations will bring artificial intelligence capabilities to the mobile world.
Intel 14th Generation Core HX “Raptor Lake Refresh” features
The flagship model of the 14th Generation Core HX series is the Core i9-14900HX with a total of 24 cores, 8 performance and 16 efficient. The mobile processor with 24MB L3 cache supports dual-channel DDR5 memory. It promises clock speeds of up to 5.8GHz on P-core and 4.1GHz on E-core.
Just below it is the Intel Core i7-14700HX with 8P+12E cores, 8MB L2 and 33MB L3 cache. It runs at a clock speed of 5.5GHz in single-core tests. The lineup also includes the Core i7-14650HX, which adopts the 8P+8E configuration previously seen in 13th Generation desktop processors and can reach a clock speed of 5.2GHz.
The most powerful of the Core i5 variants is the i5-14500HX. With 6 performance and 8 efficiency cores, the mobile processor comes with 24MB L3 cache and a maximum clock speed of 4.9GHz. i5-14450HX promises slightly lower performance with 6P+4E cores, but runs at a turbo clock speed of 4.8GHz.
According to the company, all HX processors are based on the revamped Intel 7 architecture. It also supports the Rangeley platform with PCIe Gen 5, DDR5 memory and WiFi 7 connectivity. Running at 157W TDP, the HX series will appear in gaming laptops in 2024.
