Following the departure of Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, the search for a new leader has begun. The search is all the more important given the company’s competitive pressures against AI-focused rivals such as Nvidia, as well as its aim to utilize its own production facilities more effectively.
The search for a new Intel CEO has begun
Intel is on the hunt for a new CEO after Pat Gelsinger stepped down as CEO. Accordingly, it is focused on finding a leader with expertise in manufacturing and product development. Interim co-CEO David Zinsner said that the ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of both factory operation and product innovation.
This dual focus for the next Intel CEO shows the company’s desire to overcome manufacturing hurdles, especially in the face of AI-focused rivals like Nvidia.
This skill set was also emphasized by Naga Chandrasekaran, Intel’s head of manufacturing and supply chain. He emphasized the need for a leader who can drive significant cultural change to strengthen the company’s position in the semiconductor and foundry markets.
Potential successors include veterans such as Matt Murphy of Marvell Technology and former Cadence Design Systems CEO Lip-Bu Tan.
Gelsinger’s departure, due to the board’s concerns over the cost and pace of their strategic plans, is still having an impact on the industry. While Gelsinger maintains that their strategy is on the right track, the final assessment of his tenure may not be clear until next year.
