Intel and BOE have made a significant innovation in display technology. They have developed a technology that will be needed in every home in terms of energy saving in laptops. The new technology called Winning Display 1Hz can reduce the refresh rate of the screens to 1Hz according to the need and reduces the power consumption of the screen by up to 65%. In other words, the screens will work with variable speeds between 1Hz and 120Hz , thus instantly sensing what the device is doing and using the required energy in the most efficient way.
Intel and BOE’s joint display: Technology that reduces power consumption to 65%
First of all, this development will make laptop users the happiest. We all know that one of the most energy-consuming components of laptops is the screen. The new technology will prevent the screen from running at an unnecessarily high refresh rate, thus extending battery life during use. In fact, it will not compromise on screen quality even when running at a low refresh rate.
The technology is based on Intel’s Intelligent Display Technology (IIDT). IIDT automatically adjusts the refresh rate of the display when the device needs it. For example, when you’re watching a video, the display speed is optimized, while when you’re reading a still page, the refresh rate is reduced to a minimum, significantly reducing power consumption. In fact, this feature is already used in Intel’s Meteor Lake platform and will be further developed in future Lunar Lake platforms.
By the way, we can expect to see this feature not only in laptops but also in other mobile devices such as phones. So one day, it will both save energy and offer high performance in smartphones.
Another interesting feature offered by the new technology is the LTPO architecture . Thanks to this architecture, the screen can go up to 120Hz during operations that require a high refresh rate, such as games, but can go down to 1Hz in low-energy operations. As a result, it is possible to use without compromising both performance and power consumption.
