Intel has signed a definitive agreement with Microsoft for the next-generation 18A manufacturing process. The US-based chipmaker has thus formalized its first major agreement regarding this advanced process technology, which it has been working on for a long time.
Intel has signed an agreement with Microsoft for the 18A process
It has been reported that other technology giants such as Google and Nvidia continue their talks with Intel after Microsoft. The 18A manufacturing process is in a strategic position for the company to strengthen its hand in competition with TSMC. The company introduced this process at the “Direct Connect 2025” event it organized in recent months.

It is stated that 18A offers SRAM density and energy efficiency at a level that can directly compete with TSMC’s 2nm (N2) process. Following the agreement, Intel also began to expand its customer portfolio for the 18A process.
The moves of new CEO Lip-Bu Tan were effective in Intel’s strategic move. Under Tan’s leadership, the company focused on manufacturing technologies, advanced chip packaging solutions and automated semiconductor designs. In addition, the previously implemented “IDM 2.0” strategy was abandoned and a more flexible and competitive structure was adopted.
TSMC’s full production capacity is another factor that increases interest in Intel. Many technology companies are looking for alternative suppliers who can implement their projects without being stuck with production capacity limits.
