Apple today released the iOS 26.2 update, strengthening its next-generation operating system, but also remembering users who haven’t yet upgraded. The tech giant officially released the iOS 18.7.3 update for devices that haven’t upgraded to or couldn’t upgrade to iOS 26. This version focuses on device security rather than new features.
Why should you install the iOS 18.7.3 update?
Although Apple has recently been promoting iOS 26.1 as the default update, a large group still prefers to remain on iOS 18. To ensure these users remain vulnerable to cyber threats, the company released this patch containing “important security fixes.” Simultaneously, iPadOS 18.7.3 was also made available for download for iPad users.

Apple’s release notes contain a very short and clear statement: “This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users.” While the company hasn’t yet listed the details of the patched vulnerabilities on its security page, these interim updates typically fix sensitive flaws in the system’s core that could be exploited by malicious actors.
Don’t expect noticeable changes
If you’re using iOS 18, you won’t notice any changes to the interface or features after installing this update. iOS 18.7.3 focuses entirely on security vulnerabilities under the hood. Apple followed a similar strategy with iOS 18.7.2, released last month. Experts recommend installing this update immediately via Settings > General > Software Update for the security of your data.
So, are you still using iOS 18 or have you upgraded to iOS 26? What’s your reason for staying on the old version? Share your thoughts in the comments!
