Apple iOS 18 operating system will introduce many innovative features based on artificial intelligence to iPhone users, and this will be one of the most important updates in Apple’s history.
A new era will begin on iPhones with iOS 18
Artificial intelligence has been playing an important role in the development of iPhone for many years. Many features, such as Portrait Mode and copying text from photos, are actually possible thanks to the work of AI in the background. But Apple is entering a new era in artificial intelligence and is planning major innovations in this area.
Apple CEO Tim Cook made exciting statements about artificial intelligence updates for 2024. “There are some things we’ll be talking about later this year that we’re incredibly excited about,” Cook said.
AI features expected in iOS 18:
Apple’s new iOS 18 operating system will come with many AI-focused innovations. According to Mark Gurman, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi has been tasked with integrating many new tools into iOS, powered by the company’s big language model.
New AI features could include news summaries and notifications, voice memo transcriptions, photo editing tools, and improved app recommendations. User experience enhancements are also expected, such as the automatic display of events in the calendar.
Apple will reportedly process some features on-device and others via the cloud. On-device processing is generally considered more secure and private because the data does not leave the device. But this requires more powerful processors. For example, Siri’s ability to answer health questions is only possible on the latest watch models, such as the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
According to Bernstein analysts Toni Sacconaghi and Daniel Zhu, Apple will announce new AI features with the iPhone 16 in September instead of at WWDC.
Is Apple’s partnership with OpenAI possible?
Apple plans to partner with OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, to integrate the technology into iOS 18. This partnership could lead to an AI-powered chatbot coming to iPhone. Similar talks with Google have not yet resulted in a partnership.
Apple is reportedly focusing on new models of AI that work locally and is looking for a partner for cloud-based AI. Apple is committed to creating new features and technologies that make the most of how hardware and software work together. For this reason, it prefers to develop its own native solutions, rather than relying on a third party for data processing.
With iOS 18, Apple looks set to break new ground by introducing AI to its users in a more powerful and comprehensive way. iPhone users will be able to make their daily lives easier and more efficient with new AI-powered features.
