Apple has made a significant improvement to the screen recording feature for iPhone and iPad users in the iOS 26 beta. Screen recordings can now be made in the device’s native resolution.
iOS 26 Improves Screen Recording Performance
The screen recording feature, introduced with iOS 11, was previously limited to a resolution of 1920 pixels. This resulted in lower-quality videos, especially on newer devices with high-resolution displays like the iPhone 16 Pro Max. For example, the recording resolution on the iPhone 16 Pro Max was limited to 884×1920 pixels.

This has changed with the latest iOS 26 beta. The system now uses the full screen resolution. On the iPhone 16 Pro Max, recordings can be up to 1320×2868 pixels. Despite this increase in quality, the file size doesn’t increase significantly. A 12-second screen recording took up 18.9 MB in the old version, while this figure increases to 24.2 MB in the new version.
Apple’s iOS 26 improvements aren’t limited to just this. The company is also working on additional features such as HDR support, the ability to disable screenshots in CarPlay, and Visual Lookup integration. These updates are currently only available to iOS 26 beta users. The full version is expected to be available in mid-September.
This development is particularly important for content creators, educators, and app developers. High-resolution screen recordings allow for more professional and clear videos. This feature will be particularly useful in areas where details are crucial, such as gaming videos and app launches.
