It looks like there will be a series of design changes on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. We previously reported that a new “Action” button will replace the volume up/down switch. In the new developer beta program of iOS 17, some details about this button have emerged.
“Action” button for iPhone 15 appeared in iOS 17 code
The iPhone 15 Pro family may witness the removal of the volume rocker for the first time in many years. The new action button will reportedly offer nine customizable options. These options will include accessibility shortcuts, camera controls and Siri control.
Although it has different features, it seems that its capabilities on the camera side will attract attention. For example, it will be able to autofocus with a light press while in the camera app, and take photos with a full press. It will also start video recording if pressed for a long time.
The button is expected to be developed as solid-state. This means it will be force-sensitive, which means it will provide haptic feedback. On the other hand, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple shelved plans for solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro due to production issues.
Previously revealed iPhone 15 Pro cases also confirmed the presence of this button instead of the volume rocker. It should not be ruled out that Apple will make some changes to the features of the button.
The iPhone 15 series is expected to be introduced in September. In addition to the renewed button, it will be powered by the A17 chip and will feature a 48 Megapixel main camera.
