There is only one month left until Apple unveils its new iPhone series and the excitement in the technology world is at its peak. Just like every year, Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 16 series at its September event. It is obvious that this new series has many innovations and changes compared to the iPhone 15 series. In particular, features such as larger screens, new camera arrangements and battery improvements stand out.
Here’s what we know so far about iPhone 16
Bigger screens
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will have the largest iPhone displays ever. The Pro model will come with a 6.27-inch display, while the Pro Max model will come with a 6.86-inch display.
Vertical camera layout
Apple plans to use a new vertical camera layout on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Unlike the diagonal camera layout on previous models, this will be a vertical structure with separate camera rings for wide and ultra-wide cameras. The new camera layout will allow for spatial video recording, which will no longer be exclusive to Pro models.
Battery changes
Changes are also expected in the battery capacities of the models in the iPhone 16 series. In particular, it is estimated that there will be a 5 percent increase in the iPhone 16 Pro Max model and a 9 percent increase in the iPhone 16 Pro model. However, it is also rumored that there may be a 9 percent decrease in the battery capacity of the iPhone 16 Plus model. Apple is rumored to be planning to use layered battery technology to increase energy density and extend battery life.
New Capture key
All iPhone 16 models will come with a new Capture key. It will be used to trigger image or video capture and will offer features such as zooming with a swipe, focusing with a light press, and starting recording with a stronger press.
Ultra-wide lens
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will come with a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera lens. This lens will let in more light, making it possible to take better photos, especially in low-light environments. It will also be possible to take 48-megapixel photos in ProRAW format, which can be printed in large sizes because they contain more detail.
Super telephoto camera
The iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a super telephoto periscope camera, which will greatly increase its optical zoom capacity. The current telephoto lens has a focal length of 77mm, while the new lens is expected to increase this to over 300mm. This type of camera is typically used for sports and wildlife photography, but will also provide remarkable background blur in portrait photography.
Faster Wi-Fi support
Apple will offer Wi-Fi 7 support on 2024 iPhone Pro models, which will mean faster Wi-Fi speeds, lower latency and more reliable connectivity. Wi-Fi 7 will utilize the 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands simultaneously, boosting data transfer speeds to over 40 Gbps. Standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models will come with Wi-Fi 6E support.
New A18 series processor
Apple’s next-generation A18 Pro chip will reportedly be manufactured on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, and all four iPhone 16 models this year will be equipped with A18-branded chips. This is an important development, especially since Apple Intelligence features require a powerful chip to run on iOS 18 devices.
5G Qualcomm modem
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X75 modem. This modem will deliver faster 5G download and upload speeds and consume 20 percent less energy, saving 25 percent of the device’s circuit board space. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models are expected to use the Snapdragon X70 modem.
Tetraprism lens
The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature 5x optical zoom, a feature unique to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple’s tetraprism lens system is folded to fit inside the device, allowing for 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.
Micro-lens
Apple is rumored to be planning to use micro-lens technology to increase the brightness or reduce the power consumption of the OLED displays of the iPhone 16 models. The technology reduces internal reflections, making the screen appear brighter.
Action button
The Action key, available on iPhone 15 Pro models, will be extended to standard iPhone 16 models in 2024. The key will be able to perform many functions such as turning on the flashlight, turning on the camera, and running shortcuts.
40W fast charging and 20W MagSafe
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to support 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging.
Advanced microphone
Apple plans to significantly upgrade the iPhone 16 microphones to improve the Siri experience with the new Apple Intelligence feature.
New thermal design
Apple is rumored to be working on a graphene thermal system to provide better heat management for the iPhone 16 series.
Expanded storage
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a 2TB storage option. This is a significant increase over the 1TB storage of the current iPhone 15 Pro models.
Increased memory
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will come with 8GB of RAM, which will provide a performance boost compared to previous models.
Upgraded Neural Engine
Apple’s A18 chips will feature a Neural Engine with more cores for advanced Apple Intelligence features.
Ultra-thin bezel technology
Apple will use ultra-thin bezel technology to maximize screen size in the iPhone 16 series.
New polished titanium finish
Apple plans to use a new polished titanium coating for the iPhone 16 Pro models. The coating will offer a more polished appearance than the brushed finish on previous models.
Reduced lens flare
Apple is working on a new anti-reflective optical coating technology for iPhone 16 cameras. This will reduce lens flare and ghost effects in the image.
New colors
New color options will be available in the iPhone 16 series. Pro models will come in black, white, gray and pink, while standard models will be available in black, green, pink, blue, yellow and purple.
The iPhone 16 series will appear in 1 month with its innovations and improvements. What do you think about the new iPhone 16? Are you excited about the new features? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
