Apple aficionados, brace yourselves for a significant shift in screen size. Come 2024, the tech giant plans to introduce larger 6.3 and 6.9-inch display sizes exclusively for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. However, these new screen dimensions won’t extend to the standard iPhone 16 models, which will continue to feature the familiar 6.1 and 6.7-inch display sizes.
Exclusive large screens for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
This enticing tidbit comes from renowned display analyst Ross Young, whose predictions about Apple‘s plans have often proven accurate. Earlier this week, Young revealed that the Pro models would sport larger display sizes. He later confirmed to MacRumors that these expansive screens would remain exclusive to the Pro versions, bypassing the more affordable iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
According to Young, the stated 6.3 and 6.9-inch display sizes are approximations, with detailed measurements expected to be announced at the Display Week conference in Los Angeles on May 23.
Apple’s largest screens to date
At roughly 6.3 and 6.9 inches, the projected larger display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will represent Apple’s largest screens to date. In comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max feature 6.1 and 6.7-inch display sizes, which are also anticipated for this year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The planned increase in display size hints at a potential design revision for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, a reduction in bezels, or both.
The move to larger screens for the iPhone 16 Pro models is likely to stir the smartphone market. With rival brands also pushing the boundaries on screen size, it will be interesting to see how consumers react to these changes and how this impacts Apple’s position in the premium smartphone segment.
