Apple is reportedly planning a significant upgrade for the iPhone 18 Pro front camera system, expected to be unveiled this September. According to reliable leaks, the Pro models will feature a new 24-megapixel sensor designed to elevate selfie and video call quality to new heights. This development is seen as the next logical step in Apple’s consistent advancement in camera technology.
What to Expect from the iPhone 18 Pro Front Camera?
The core of the leaks suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models will transition to a 24 MP resolution front-facing camera sensor. This would be a substantial leap, not only from the 12 MP sensors used for a long time from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 16 but also surpassing the anticipated 18 MP upgrade for the iPhone 17 series.
This increase in resolution is expected to deliver significantly more detail, especially in selfies and video calls. Furthermore, a higher resolution could lead to noticeable improvements in portrait mode shots and low-light performance.

These claims are not based on a single source. Previously, financial analysis firms like JP Morgan and supply chain insiders have shared similar reports. This strengthens the expectation of a 24 MP front camera and aligns with Apple’s strategy of making gradual hardware upgrades each year rather than massive leaps.
Minor Changes Expected in Overall Design
While a significant camera innovation is on the horizon, no radical changes are anticipated for the phone’s overall design. However, the Dynamic Island, which impacts the screen experience, may see a reduction in size. Recent leaks suggest Apple could shrink the notch’s width by approximately 35% by moving some Face ID components under the display. This could result in a thinner, pill-shaped cutout while retaining the core TrueDepth system.
It is now believed that earlier rumors about a punch-hole display or a completely under-screen Face ID might have stemmed from translation errors. For now, current expectations are converging on a smaller Dynamic Island.
Of course, with the iPhone 18 series launch still months away in September, plans can always change. However, initial leaks indicate that Apple will continue to focus on enhancing the front camera experience in its Pro models.
