Apple strengthened the “Pro” angle on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models, making them thicker and heavier than their predecessors. Now, a reliable leaker claims that this strategy will continue with next year’s iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple Continues Its “Thick and Heavy” Strategy!
This fall’s iPhone 17 series created a contrast between the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the ultra-thick Pro models. However, while sales of the ultra-thin iPhone Air were disappointing, the exceptionally strong sales of the iPhone 17 Pro models clearly demonstrated that user preferences favor a “thick and heavy” design.

It appears Apple is planning to lean more heavily into this user-desired direction. Instant Digital, known for its leaks, posted on Weibo that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be even thicker and heavier than the 17 Pro Max.
Instant Digital predicts that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh over 240 grams, setting a new record for the heaviest iPhone ever.
Comparative Weights:
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 227 grams
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 233 grams
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 240 grams
- iPhone 18 Pro Max (Estimated): Over 240 grams
Leaks suggest that the new model will be slightly thicker than the previous generation. Like Apple did this year, it’s likely that Apple will justify this weight reduction next year by adding a larger battery. While a larger battery will increase the device’s weight, it will also provide the extended battery life that users are most demanding.
