Recently, stories of an iPhone automatically calling 911 after a serious car accident have once again surfaced. Such incidents once again highlight the lifesaving potential of Apple’s Crash Detection feature. Now, an iPhone has saved the life of a 16-year-old. Here are the details.
iPhone Saves Lives
According to WFMJ, 16-year-old Lindsay Leskovac fell asleep on her way home and was involved in an accident. She suffered multiple fractures in her legs and cervical spine, losing consciousness. Her iPhone detected the collision and automatically called 911, dispatching a rescue team to the scene.
Her daughter’s mother, who said this feature likely saved her daughter’s life, described the incident: “The rescue team member told me the phone called 911. I later researched how this call was made and learned that if you have an iPhone 14 or later, automatic Crash Detection is available as long as the setting is enabled.”
Her mother urged all iPhone users to ensure this setting is enabled. To do this, go to Settings > Emergency SOS and enable the “Call After a Serious Traffic Crash” option.
