Samsung has been the best-selling smartphone brand in its home country of South Korea for many years and has a significant market share worldwide. But the recent surge in popularity of the iPhone over Samsung has turned even this situation on its head.
Interest in Apple overtakes Samsung in South Korea
In 2023, Apple’s iPhone sales surged in South Korea and around the world. The surge has shaken Samsung’s lead and pushed Apple to the top of smartphone sales worldwide.
Several factors contributed to the iPhone’s rise in popularity in South Korea. The iPhone’s improved technological features and user-friendly interface attracted the attention of consumers. In addition, thanks to agreements with distributors, the price of the iPhone dropped in the country and became more accessible. This increased the iPhone’s competitiveness against Samsung.
On the other hand, one of the main factors in Samsung’s loss of market share is the increasing competition in the Android market. The strengthening of rival companies such as Huawei, Google and Xiaomi negatively affected Samsung’s market share. In addition, Samsung’s lack of innovation and monotony in the design of its devices caused consumers to turn to alternative brands. At least that’s what the surveys say.
On the other hand, Apple’s recent addition of features such as USB-C charging ports and RCS messaging to iPhones has increased consumer interest considerably. Particularly in South Korea, the availability of call recording on iPhones, thanks to agreements with telecommunications companies, is one of the factors that accelerated consumers’ switch to the iPhone.
These are the only reasons why Samsung has fallen behind Apple even in its homeland, South Korea. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
