Apple’s new claims about the iPhone 17 series, which will be introduced in 2025, have emerged. Apple analyst Jeff Pu from GF Securities announced that all iPhone 17 models will use metalens technology for the Face ID system. This technological change may reduce the size of the Dynamic Island.
Metalens technology will be used in all iPhone 17 models
According to Pu’s investor research note published earlier this month, not only the Pro models, but also all four models in the series, including the basic iPhone 17, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, and the iPhone 17 Pro, will benefit from this technology.

Earlier this year, a leaker nicknamed Digital Chat Station made similar claims, saying that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would adopt the metalens Face ID system, which integrates the transmitter and receiver components. According to the source, this change will reduce the size of the Face ID components and create a smaller Dynamic Island on the device.
Last year, Pu said that only the iPhone 17 Pro Max would have a much narrower Dynamic Island thanks to metalens technology. Now, he believes that all iPhone 17 models will switch to this technology.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, on the other hand, said in January that he expected the size of the Dynamic Island to remain “largely unchanged” across the iPhone 17 series. All three sources have proven track records of sharing details about upcoming Apple products.
Therefore, it is not yet clear whether the Dynamic Island will change in size. According to rumors, the iPhone 18 Pro models to be introduced in 2026 will have only a small front camera hole with under-screen Face ID technology.
