Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), the most anticipated game in the gaming world, has crossed a major threshold in the development process. Mike York, a former developer at Rockstar Games, announced that the game is fully playable and is now in the final testing phase. So what does it mean for the game to be considered finished?
GTA 6 is in the final stages: The game is fully playable
First of all, we can now take a deep breath that GTA 6 will be released as planned in 2025. GTA 6 has been eagerly awaited since the first trailer was released on December 5, 2023. However, Rockstar Games has been very tight-lipped about official announcements. All we know is that the game is coming out in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. According to Mike York:
- The game is fully playable and complete in terms of content.
- Debugging and optimization are currently underway.
- With big open-world games like GTA 6, testing takes a long time because it’s very difficult to predict how players will play the game.
York says the game is in its final testing phase, but the team is still making minor additions and adjustments. In the meantime, debugging is being prioritized to ensure the game runs smoothly on all systems.
So why did it take so long?
Well, to put it in perspective, unlike a linear RPG like The Witcher 3, GTA 6 has a completely open-world mechanic. Therefore, it’s much harder to predict how players will use the game in each scenario. This is exactly why the testing process is taking so long.
We know that Rockstar strives to deliver its large-scale games fully and without bugs, despite delays. Therefore, while the 2025 release date still seems realistic, the possibility of a last minute delay should not be ruled out. So what do you think about this? Are you excited for GTA 6?
