Preparations for “The Batman 2,” directed by Matt Reeves and featuring Robert Pattinson returning as Batman, have accelerated. The first details of the film, which will begin filming in the spring of 2026, have begun to emerge. The most striking of these details is the strong rumors that Robin will be included in the story.
Robin may return to the Batman universe
According to information from reliable Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, Robin will appear alongside Batman in the second film. Robin has long been a familiar figure as Batman’s partner in the DC comics.

However, the character’s inclusion in Matt Reeves’s dark and realistic Batman universe was an unexpected step. Because Reeves’ series focuses on the solitary struggles of a young Batman, the introduction of supporting characters like Robin was considered unlikely.
This development has the potential to create confusion at Warner Bros., which is currently working on several Batman projects simultaneously. Another Batman film, “The Brave and the Bold,” is in development as part of James Gunn’s new DC Cinematic Universe. This film will also focus on Batman and Robin.
The inclusion of Robin in the Reeves-directed series will allow for the simultaneous exploration of similar character dynamics across two distinct universes. This could make it difficult to distinguish between the two parallel Batman narratives under the DC banner.
Pattinson will be joined by familiar characters from the first film in “The Batman 2.” Zoe Kravitz will reprise her role as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. However, it is not yet known who will portray Robin. Warner Bros. has not officially announced the character’s appearance in the film.
“The Batman 2” is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. While it remains unclear what role and tone Robin will be added to the film, it remains to be seen how this decision will impact the balance of Matt Reeves’ universe and how it will relate to James Gunn’s projects. Currently, there’s only a leak based on reliable sources; the studio hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet.
