Why has the Samsung AppCloud app become a source of controversy?

The Israeli-based company ironSource is behind this controversial app. Currently operating under the US-based Unity umbrella, ironSource installs AppCloud primarily on Galaxy A, Galaxy M, and Galaxy F series devices. The app’s primary purpose is to provide users with third-party app recommendations when installing new devices.

Questions surrounding the app were brought to the international agenda on February 13, 2025, with a piece of content prepared by SMEX. SMEX included significant allegations in the letter, titled “Open Letter to Samsung: End Israeli Bloatware Apps Mandatory in the WANA Region.” The letter stated that AppCloud, which operates without the user’s knowledge and consent, collects sensitive data.

The statement also stated that the app jeopardizes the phone’s security if attempted to be uninstalled. Furthermore, the lack of any clear privacy information raises user concerns. The fact that this app is built directly into Samsung devices in certain countries, and that Samsung remains silent about what information it collects, further fuels these concerns.
