Microsoft was allegedly working on a portable Xbox console for a while. The Xbox handheld console, which holds an important place in the gaming world with leaks, was now on the agenda of CEO Phil Spencer. So what did Spencer say about this issue?
Phil Spencer: We are exploring new designs for Xbox
According to Xbox CEO Phil Spencer, Microsoft may be exploring new designs beyond classic consoles. Speaking at the 2024 Game Developer Conference, Spencer made critical statements about the Xbox handheld console claims.
Phil Spencer said that the Xbox hardware team is “working on different hardware designs”. Spencer also shared his thoughts on what a portable Xbox experience would be like. He said that he has been testing the Lenovo Legion Go for a while and that the gaming experience has improved.
“When I turn on the TV, I want to feel like the dashboard of my Xbox, but I want it on these devices (handheld consoles),” Spencer said. Spencer also discussed the possibility of a single Xbox platform that could span multiple devices.
The Xbox CEO’s comments come at a time when Microsoft has recently struggled to grow in the gaming sector. We know that the company recently laid off close to 2,000 people from its various studios, including Activision Blizzard.
According to Spencer, bringing old Xbox games to PlayStation and Switch consoles will allow Microsoft to reach more gamers. That means more Xbox games are on the way for other consoles.
