The rapid advancement of technology in recent years has brought many innovative electronic devices into our lives. These products, which facilitate our daily routines and improve our quality of life, range from toothbrushes to smart home devices. Finally, another unexpected electronic device was introduced: The electric spoon. So what does this do?

What does the electric spoon do?

The electric spoon, introduced by Japanese beverage company Kirin Holdings at CES 2025, has only one function: adding salt to the food. The company says the spoon uses a low-level electric current to concentrate sodium ion molecules in food, giving low-sodium foods a saltier flavour.

The electric spoon, which was released with limited stocks, was offered for sale in Japan at a price of $ 127. However, the brand announced that the device will be available worldwide in the coming years. It is unclear what kind of experience the spoon, which was tried by many people at the fair, offers.

Kirin stated that they developed this spoon to help people consume less salt. Accordingly, the product is expected to sell well in Japan. Because in the remarkable country of Asia, more than twice the amount of salt recommended by the World Health Organisation is consumed.
