While the world of electric cars is growing rapidly, a great competition has started in the European market. Giant manufacturers are developing their new models to appeal to the electric market. Kia is one of these brands. The South Korean company stated that it broke an electric car sales record in August data.
Kia sold more than 15k EV in August
Kia Motors revealed the sales success of its electric vehicles in August. According to data from the company, sales of vehicles with electric engines exceeded 15 thousand in one month. The two new SUV models, EV6 and EV9, grew by 100 percent compared to last year, selling 9578 units.
While the EV6 model sold 6916 units in August, the EV9 increased its share in the market with 2662 vehicles. In addition, 7479 EV6 models were sold outside South Korea for the first time, breaking a new record in monthly figures. Other models such as Niro EV, Niro Plus EV and Soul EV also sold over 7 thousand units worldwide.
Kia’s electric car sales exceeded 15,900 units in August, representing 82 percent year-on-year growth. Electric vehicles accounted for about 6.2 percent of Kia’s total sales worldwide.
The company’s sales of all cars (internal combustion + electric) are also not doing badly. Last month, sales grew by 5.2 percent to 255,481 units. In addition, in the whole of 2023, it grew by 9 percent and exceeded 2 million vehicles.
The automobile world thinks that monthly sales for EV9 and EV6 will reach 10 thousand units within the year.
