nternal combustion engine vehicles are now making way for electric models. Many manufacturers have shifted their focus entirely towards electric models. One of the brands making significant investments in this regard is KIA. The South Korean manufacturer will soon introduce its third electric car.
KIA EV5 will be revealed on August 25th
The brand will soon introduce its third model, the KIA EV5, which is built on the E-GMP architecture. Images shared by CarNewsChina from documents of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) showcase the design of the electric compact SUV model.
The design of the electric SUV model is largely similar to the recently unveiled EV5 concept. The production version of the electric vehicle differs from the concept model with conventional mirrors, flush door handles, smaller tires, and revised lighting elements.
In terms of design, the EV5 follows in the footsteps of its sibling, the EV9 model, emphasizing its SUV character. With dimensions of 4,615 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height, the vehicle offers a wheelbase of 2,748 mm. In terms of size, the EV5 is closer to the EV6 model, and its higher ground clearance sets it apart from that vehicle.
Underneath the body of the new electric SUV model, there will be a motor capable of producing 218 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque, positioned on the rear axle. This electric motor will draw its power from a BYD-signed LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery.
However, it’s important to note that this vehicle is intended for the Chinese market. In the global version, we probably won’t see LFP batteries. Instead, the vehicle is expected to be equipped with an 82 kWh battery that can provide a range of up to 600 kilometers outside of China.
KIA’s new electric SUV model will be unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show, scheduled for August 25th. What are your thoughts on the KIA EV5? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
