Hideo Kojima has released an exciting trailer for his new game, OD, developed in partnership with Xbox. Described as a cross between a game and a film, this production is notable for its suspense and horror elements.
First Details of Kojima’s New Game, OD
The approximately three-minute trailer shows actress Sophia Lillis’s character progressing through an eerie atmosphere. The scene, which begins with her opening a red door and lighting candles, appears to contain references to Kojima’s previous game, Death Stranding. The moments where Lillis trembles in fear, amidst the heavy rain and mysterious sounds outside, suggest the game’s suspense will be intense.
OD is being developed using Unreal Engine, rather than Sony’s Decima engine, which was used in Kojima’s previous games. Kojima stated during his 10th anniversary livestream that Unreal Engine is even more advanced than Death Stranding 2. This collaboration, with Microsoft providing technical support, demonstrates the project’s visual and technological ambitions. Xbox chief Phil Spencer confirmed that the game’s development is “advanced” and that Microsoft is working closely with the team.
The trailer’s subtitle, “The Door,” suggests the game could consist of interconnected episodes. It was previously announced that horror film director Jordan Peele would be involved in the project. Kojima said Peele is working on another aspect of the game’s overall experience, suggesting the OD universe could encompass multiple stories or concepts.
While a release date for OD hasn’t been confirmed yet, Phil Spencer’s statement that “Kojima is innovating with gameplay, story, and player interaction” suggests the game will transcend the traditional horror genre.
