NVIDIA has announced that it has identified vulnerabilities affecting GeForce, RTX, Quadro, NVS, and Tesla GPUs and has issued an urgent update to users. These vulnerabilities can allow malicious actors to gain unauthorised access to systems, steal sensitive information, and even take control of devices.
Vulnerabilities for NVIDIA graphics cards
NVIDIA has issued an urgent update warning for video card users. The company stated that eight vulnerabilities discovered put systems at risk and users should update drivers as soon as possible.
These vulnerabilities, which affect GeForce, RTX, Quadro, NVS and Tesla graphics cards, can lead to unauthorised access and attacks. NVIDIA warned that without an update, an authorised attacker can elevate permissions on the system or an unauthorised user can access the computer.
This can lead to serious consequences such as remote code execution, denial-of-service attacks, authorisation escalation, information leakage and data destruction. NVIDIA recommends that users download and install the latest drivers from the NVIDIA Driver Download page or through the GeForce Experience app.
Accordingly, GeForce version 566.03, RTX/Quadro/NVS R565 series version 566.03, RTX/Quadro/NVS R550 series version 553.24 and RTX/Quadro/NVS R535 series version 538.95 should be downloaded.
This is a big problem for NVIDIA, which struggles with major competitors in the technology market. The company recently replaced Intel Corp in the Dow Jones Industrial Index (DJIA). This change took place as part of the quarterly rebalancing of the index.
