Tesla , one of the world’s largest electric car manufacturers, has not been very happy lately. Because the company reported a decrease in annual vehicle deliveries for the first time since 2020. Accordingly, Tesla seems to be going for layoffs. Here are the details…
Tesla plans to lay off thousands of employees
Last year, Tesla lost its leadership in the electric vehicle industry to its biggest rival, Chinese BYD . BYD achieved great success by producing 3.02 million vehicles. Tesla , on the other hand, was left behind with a production of 1.81 million. The company, where Elon Musk is the CEO, went through a difficult period in the face of price competition from many Chinese manufacturers, including BYD . For this reason, it suffered a serious setback.
Tesla sold fewer vehicles annually for the first time in four years. This affected investors’ confidence in the company. It seems that the company is going to downsize because it is experiencing a decline. So much so that Tesla plans to lay off more than 10 percent of its global workforce. This means that at least 14.000 people out of a total of 140.473 employees will lose their jobs.
It is currently unknown which units of Tesla the layoffs will affect. Company CEO Elon Musk stated that they were sorry for making such a decision, but it had to be done. The famous businessman thinks that this way the company will be tighter, more innovative and grow.
Tesla also gave up producing the budget-friendly Tesla Model 2 vehicle, which was expected to be offered for sale at a price of approximately 25 thousand dollars , as it experienced a significant decline . Instead, it will focus on Robotaxi, which has been talked about a lot lately .
