Riot Games has launched the most comprehensive transformation in the history of League of Legends, a game with millions of players worldwide. This massive update, codenamed “League Next” and planned for release in 2027, completely changes both the technical infrastructure and the visual world of the game.
League of Legends receives a new update
One of the most concrete steps in this process is the complete overhaul of the Summoner’s Rift map. The development team confirms that the new map will feature completely updated visuals, offering certain innovations in gameplay mechanics in addition to aesthetic changes. However, great care is being taken to preserve the core dynamics that reflect the spirit of the game.

League of Legends executive producer Paul Bellezza, in his statements regarding the future of the game, definitively rejects the possibility of a new sequel. Bellezza emphasizes that Riot Games’ strategy is based on constantly updating the existing structure to keep it modern.
In line with this, balance patches, new champions, and game modes will continue uninterrupted every two weeks until the 2027 update. While the current process continues, a large portion of the development team is dedicating its time entirely to the major changes in 2027.
One of the most radical technical changes the update will bring is to the game client, a topic that has been debated for years. Currently operating as a separate application independent of the game, the client will be directly integrated into the game in the new era.
Thanks to this integration, players will be able to access menus, social features, and pre-match preparation screens directly from within the game without needing an external launcher. This move plays a critical role in improving technical performance and making the user experience smoother.
