Chinese automaker Leapmotor has shared the first teaser images of its new electric hatchback, the Lafa 5. Backed by Stellantis, the company will unveil this ambitious model at the IAA Mobility 2025 trade fair in Munich on September 9th. The Lafa 5 is the first model to break the brand’s two-character naming convention.
Leapmotor Lafa 5 Unveiled
This compact hatchback, internally known as the B05, focuses primarily on urban mobility. It was previously announced that the Lafa 5 and the larger B10 model would be produced in Spain in collaboration with Stellantis. This production decision is a key part of the brand’s global expansion strategy.

The vehicle’s design details suggest it continues Leapmotor’s current design style. The muscular front hood, curved headlights with three-piece daytime running lights, and full-length LED taillights are among the vehicle’s exterior highlights. Hidden door handles and muscular fender lines also lend the vehicle a modern and sporty feel.
One of the Lafa 5’s most striking features is the roof-mounted LiDAR system, a feature rarely seen in small, affordable electric cars. Black side mirrors and a rearview camera also complete the technological equipment.
The vehicle’s dimensions have not yet been officially announced, but it is expected to be similar to the Volkswagen ID.3. The ID.3 is known to be 4,262 mm long, 1,809 mm wide, and 1,552 mm high.
Leapmotor’s change of naming convention for the new model suggests it aims to accelerate its global sales targets. Full details of the Lafa 5 will be revealed at the unveiling in Munich on September 9th.
