LG has announced the mass production of the world’s first 40-inch “pillar-to-pillar” (P2P) in-car display for the automotive industry. The new display will be used for the first time in the Afeela, an electric car jointly developed by Sony and Honda. So what makes this display special?
LG, the world’s first mass-produced 40-inch in-car display: Sony to be used in Honda Afeela
Firstly, the huge screen extends between the driver’s and front passenger’s seat, combining the dashboard, navigation, climate controls and multimedia systems on a single surface. Thanks to its multitasking capability, the screen allows users to change climate settings or play media while simultaneously using the navigation.

LG’s new display features a special “View Concealment Mode” (SPM). Thanks to this technology, when the front passenger is watching a 4K movie, the driver cannot see the content, ensuring safe driving. In addition, local dimming technology reduces power consumption by 30% and the screen’s heat dissipation by 15%.
The display offers AI-powered driving information, providing information such as lane keeping, blind spot warnings and navigation suggestions in real time. There is also a 70 percent reduction in physical buttons and a system that can be controlled with hand gestures and voice commands.
LG has also improved the front passenger experience, turning the interior into a “movie theater” with 4K game streaming and a Dolby Atmos-supported sound system. Sensors placed on the seats automatically adjust the viewing angle of the screen according to the passenger’s position.
