Developments in the aviation industry are increasing day by day. According to the latest news, a project that was once described as an “urban legend” is on the agenda. The first details have arrived from the “silent supersonic jet” project produced in partnership with NASA and Lockheed Martin. Here is the silent supersonic jet Lockheed Martin X-59 and its details…
Silent supersonic jet Lockheed Martin X-59 and its features!
The project actually started in 2018. At that time, it was mostly described in forums with adjectives such as “myth” and “impossible”. NASA invested 248 million dollars in Lockheed Martin regarding the issue. The Skunk Works project, which was developed as a concept project at that time, later emerged as X-59.
The company has shown some parts and test stages of the aircraft in the hangar so far. But now there is a prototype model and it is literally in front of us. Lockheed Martin company made various statements regarding the issue. Accordingly, the aircraft named X-59 is actually a concept for now. They do not find it very correct to use the term prototype.
According to the statement made by the company, this aircraft is a prototype of “a silent supersonic jet that does not produce the explosion sound caused by jets exceeding the speed of sound.” Thanks to X-59, which is described as the first phase of the project, NASA and Lockheed Martin company plan to reshape both the military and civil aviation world.
The expression “silence” mentioned here needs some explanation. As a result, we are talking about an aircraft that exceeds the speed of sound. For this reason, it is almost impossible to reduce the noise of this aircraft to zero when it breaks the sound barrier. However, with the X-59, Lockheed Martin has reduced this noise to a level that would pose a “danger” to humans and wildlife. So, we can call this sound level as noise rather than an explosion.
The project is currently in the prototype stage. However, we will see more comprehensive products in the future. So what do you think about this issue? Don’t forget to express your opinions in the comments section…
