Apple is preparing for a major change in its MacBook Pro lineup. According to sources in South Korea, the company is nearing completion of its preparations for the transition to OLED display technology. All of the displays will be manufactured by Samsung Display, and the new models are expected to be released towards the end of 2026.
The MacBook Pro with an OLED Display Will Make a Difference
OLED displays, which will replace Apple’s current mini-LED panels, represent a significant leap forward not only in image quality but also in energy efficiency. OLED panels are expected to offer advantages such as higher contrast ratios, more accurate color reproduction, and lower power consumption. This will directly improve battery life.

Information previously shared by Omdia predicted that the MacBook Pro with an OLED display would be introduced in 2026. New reports have confirmed this date. However, Apple has not made any official announcement on this matter.
A few weeks ago, analyst Mark Gurman stated that Apple has no plans for MacBook models with an M5 chip in 2025. This suggests that the hardware timeline could also impact the OLED transition, with the launch potentially being pushed back to 2027.
With this innovation in display technology, changes are also expected in the MacBook Pro’s design. There’s talk of abandoning the current notch design for a pill-shaped camera hole or a Dynamic Island-like design similar to the one used on iPhones. However, whether Apple is involved in the final design decisions regarding this detail remains unknown.
Apple has yet to officially confirm an OLED MacBook Pro. However, consistent information from the production chain and work with Samsung Display suggest that this transition is planned and actively underway.
Apple last made a significant update to its display technology by switching its MacBook line to mini-LED displays in 2021. The move to OLED is considered the next major evolution in this area.
