Apple has released the macOS Tahoe 26.1 update for Mac computers. This new version brings general performance improvements and bug fixes, significant infrastructure improvements for AI development, and some visual improvements.
What’s New in macOS Tahoe 26.1
Released after several weeks of developer and public beta, the update includes small but noteworthy user features. It also lays the groundwork for AI improvements expected to be announced soon.

With this release, Apple is working to add MCP support to macOS, iPadOS, and iOS. MCP is an open standard developed by Anthropic that allows AI models to interact with user platforms and tools. Additionally, infrastructure improvements have been made to Image Playground to support third-party rendering models beyond ChatGPT.
The most significant user-facing update is the addition of a “Tinted” mode to the standard “Liquid Glass” appearance. This new mode slightly adjusts images to improve contrast. While this change may appear subtle on macOS, it creates a more noticeable difference on iPadOS and iOS.
The update also includes two icon changes. First, the ports and holes added in macOS Tahoe 26 have been removed from the updated Macintosh HD icon. Second, the Apple TV app icon has been revamped. This change reflects the first hints of Apple’s promised new, more vibrant design language and the simplification of the Apple TV+ branding to just “Apple TV.”
