Introduced in the summer as a rival to Twitter (or X), Threads is now virtually defunct. It’s the fastest growing platform in history, but usage rates have fallen just as fast. Finally, Meta started showing Threads posts on Facebook and Instagram.
Your Threads post is now on Facebook and Instagram
Meta has stepped up its efforts to increase engagement on its little-used platform Threads. The company started showing popular posts from the app on Instagram and Facebook. But its inclusion on Facebook’s home page without users’ consent has sparked controversy.
The new feature, called “For You in Threads” on Facebook, aims to show posts to all users. This is one of the strangest strategies Meta has ever employed to promote its text-based app.
Threads, launched in the past few months, allows users to share photos, videos and text. However, it has recently struggled to gain traction with the decline in daily users. To turn things around, Meta started to get support from other platforms.
For example, it is possible to share posts as Stories on Instagram. However, the unauthorized submission of Threads to Facebook was met with backlash from users. Because there is no way to disable the “For You in Threads” section.
Privacy experts have raised concerns about the lack of transparency and consent. While Threads is designed for intimate sharing, publishing it on Facebook without users’ knowledge could cause problems. It should also be noted that many Facebook profiles do not use Threads.
