Amazon, which will bring the Mass Effect universe to television screens, has started taking the long-awaited steps for the project. The series adaptation, officially announced last November, has accelerated its production efforts.

Mass Effect is coming as a series project

Doug Jung will serve as the executive producer of the series and also act as the project lead. Jung previously co-wrote the screenplay for Star Trek Beyond alongside Simon Pegg. He has also been part of the writing teams for productions such as Dark Blue, Banshee, and Mindhunter.

Amazon decided that Jung, known for his experience in science fiction and aptitude for dramatic storytelling, is the right person to manage bringing a complex and character-driven universe like Mass Effect to television.

There have been no changes to the script. Since the project’s announcement in November 2024, it was stated that the screenplay would be written by Daniel Casey. Casey, known for Fast & Furious 9, has also worked on various action projects.

The Mass Effect series has been in planning for a long time. First brought up in 2021, the adaptation was officially announced by Amazon last year. Recent successes of game adaptations like The Last of Us, Fallout, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie have made bringing Mass Effect to screens even more appealing.
