A new player in the mobile processor world is coming on the scene. MediaTek’s new Dimensity 6400 processor comes with some small but significant improvements compared to previous models. So will this new chipset really make a difference, or does it carry the traces of the past? Here are the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 features…
MediaTek Dimensity 6400 specifications
MediaTek continues to update the Dimensity series and its newest member, Dimensity 6400, was officially introduced today. This new processor, which goes through the 6 nm production process, has an eight-core structure. While 2 Cortex-A76 cores operate at 2.5 GHz, 6 Cortex-A55 cores operate at 2.0 GHz for energy efficiency. On the graphics side, there is a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

The processor is optimised for mid-segment devices with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage support. On the display side, 1080p+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and 10-bit colour support are available. Although the camera provides support up to 108 Megapixels, no detailed information about video recording features has been shared.
When we look at the connection features, 5G Release 16 modem draws attention. The modem, which can reach a maximum download speed of 3.3Gbps, offers Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.2 support. All these features are one step above the Dimensity 6300. In fact, Dimensity 6400 comes with Cortex-A76 cores running only 0.1GHz faster than the previous model and a possible GPU upgrade.
Although this new chipset from MediaTek looks like a modern model, its foundations are rooted in the past. Bearing great similarities with the Dimensity 810 released in 2021, this processor adapts the hardware from the past to the present with slight improvements. However, it is still preparing to appear in new devices. One of the first models using Dimensity 6400 will be the Realme P3x 5G, which will be introduced tomorrow.
