MediaTek confirmed at the Computex 2025 trade show that it is working on its next-generation processor developed with a 2-nanometer manufacturing process. Thus, the company may become the first manufacturer to switch to 2nm technology in the mobile chip world.
MediaTek to launch the first 2nm processor
The most advanced manufacturing process currently used in mobile devices is at the 3nm level. While companies such as Apple are among the first to use TSMC’s latest technologies; it is stated that this time the leadership may pass to MediaTek.

According to the company’s statement, the 2nm processor is planned to come off the production line in September 2025. The timing in question also coincides with TSMC’s high-volume 2nm production schedule set for the second half of 2026.
MediaTek has not yet announced the name of the processor. However, industry sources state that this new chip will be called Dimensity 9600. The company’s previous generation model, Dimensity 9500, is expected to be released with a 3nm production process.
On the Apple side, the A20 chip to be introduced this year is expected to use an improved version of TSMC’s 3nm process called N3P. MediaTek has generally positioned itself as a more economical alternative to Qualcomm with its flagship processors so far.
However, since the 2nm production process is approximately 10% more costly than 3nm, the Dimensity 9600 may be the company’s most expensive and high-end processor to date. If the current schedule is maintained, MediaTek’s 2nm processor is expected to be released towards the end of 2026.
