Mercedes-Benz’s luxury electric sedan, the EQS, has long been the subject of controversy due to its unorthodox design. Although some users criticized the aerodynamic design, especially the “mouse” shape, the company’s design team argued that this model offers a vision for the future. Here are the details…
Mercedes designer: EQS does not appeal to traditional S-Class customers
In an interview with ABC News, Mercedes-Benz’s chief designer Gorden Wagener said that the EQS is not designed for traditional S-Class customers. Wagener said that this model has an innovative and pioneering design that appeals to customers looking for a different aesthetic, rather than those who stick to the classic luxury of the S-Class.

In addition, the EQS has an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.20, indicating that Mercedes has achieved its aerodynamic efficiency targets for electric vehicles. Mercedes has also decided to gradually phase out the EQ brand for its electric vehicles. The models formerly called EQ will now be integrated into existing internal combustion and hybrid models.
For example, in the future, an all-electric S-Class will be called “S-Class EQ Technology” and plug-in hybrid versions will be called “S-Class EQ Hybrid Technology”. In fact, the company’s change in strategy is driven by slowing sales in the electric vehicle segment and the fact that consumers still prefer traditional model names. On the other hand, Mercedes plans to launch 17 new electric models by 2027.
