Meta and Microsoft, accusing Apple of not complying enough with the new regulations of the European Union, have formed a sort of alliance. These companies are attempting to exert pressure on Apple through various lobbying activities.
Meta and Microsoft have formed an alliance against Apple!
Under the Digital Markets Act brought by the EU, Apple, accused of monopolizing, was forced to open up its iOS platform to other companies more. However, Meta and Microsoft claim that iOS has not been made transparent enough and that Apple is trying to circumvent the new regulations of the European Union.
Reaching out to senior EU officials, Meta and Microsoft argue that the company continues to violate competition laws and that much larger sanctions need to be imposed than before. Apple, which was recently fined a whopping 500 million euros for accusations of monopolization in music platforms under EU laws, seems to be facing more headaches in this regard. The problem stems from the company charging hefty commissions from active firms on its own app market, the App Store, and providing a very limited scope for maneuvering.
Constantly rebelling against this situation and fed up with the high commission rates on iOS, companies like Meta and Microsoft view the EU regulations quite positively but believe that more needs to be done to ensure a real competitive environment. Ultimately, whether these initiatives will truly benefit users remains to be seen over time. However, Apple seems to be quite cornered this time.
