Meta acquires Play AI, an artificial intelligence startup that produces human voices
According to the information shared, Meta is preparing to directly leverage Play AI’s expertise in natural voice generation in areas such as its own product portfolio, including AI characters, Meta AI, wearable devices, and audio content creation. The accessibility and user-friendly nature of Play AI’s voice generation platform positions it to directly contribute to Meta’s goals in this area.

The financial details of the acquisition were not publicly disclosed. However, Bloomberg previously reported that the two companies had been in talks for some time and that a deal was expected. Meta has recently been making significant investments in the AI field.
The company is aggressively hiring engineers from OpenAI and recently added CEO Alexandr Wang to its ranks as part of a deal with Scale AI. Wang will lead a new unit at Meta focused on “superintelligence.”
Play AI has distinguished itself with the goal of increasing realism in artificial voice technologies, developing solutions that allow users to create high-quality audio with minimal technical expertise through its audio generation infrastructure. This technology will play a key role in Meta’s chatbots, digital characters, and audio media content strategies.
