Microsoft finally became the owner of Activision Blizzard after a long ordeal. With the merger complete, Xbox now owns some of the biggest game franchises, including Call of Duty, Overwatch and World of Warcraft.
Fans have identified the game they most want to see brought back to life with the Activision-Xbox merger: Guitar Hero
The new merger has spawned a number of exciting anticipation-boosting projects, including a Halo game from Infinity Ward, a Crash Bandicoot racing game from Playground Games, and even a new Call of Duty game from 343 Industries.
But many users on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) wish Xbox would utilize these new studios to revive some of the classic, forgotten gems in Activision’s brand vault.
The most in-demand of these is Guitar Hero, the game that got a generation playing electric guitars, bass guitars and drums. The fans’ request is ironic, as reports surfaced earlier this week that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick mocked the dormant franchise’s revival during a company meeting. But fans are still hopeful.
In fact, after the acquisition was announced in early 2022, Xbox head Phil Spencer said he was eager to visit abandoned Activision franchises, including Guitar Hero during an interview with the Washington Post.
