Microsoft, one of the most talked-about companies in recent times, seems to be entering into a comprehensive collaboration with Intel. The company’s CEO, Satya Nadella, announced that they will leverage Intel’s latest 1.8-nanometer 18A design for their custom chips. However, the fact that this technique has not yet been finalized indicates that the project may not be concluded until at least 2025. Here are all the details…
Is Microsoft forging an alliance with Intel?
Both companies have refrained from providing any details about the chip under development. However, we can infer from Microsoft’s introduction of Maia artificial intelligence chips last November that there may be a recent development in this regard. Additionally, there are talks that Intel drew inspiration for its chip design from Arm. If these rumors are true, we may need to consider the possibility of a triple alliance involving Arm. This is because we also know that Intel has made a significant investment in this company’s shares.
Intel’s 18A technology provides a significant increase in efficiency while also increasing the processing power per unit area with its small size. Additionally, it is said that this technology significantly reduces power usage, resulting in significant cost savings and environmentally friendly performance.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger claims to have big plans for the second half of 2024, stating that they are also working on 1.4-nanometer chips. However, it is predicted that these chips may not go into production until at least the end of 2026. Apart from Microsoft, Intel, which also has giant customers such as MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Amazon, is likely to be more talked about in the coming years.
