While exciting developments are taking place in the field of artificial intelligence, controversy continues to rage. OpenAI and Microsoft have made some secret financial agreements on what exactly AI means and how to achieve the goal.
OpenAI and Microsoft set financial targets for artificial intelligence
A new report published by The Information reveals Microsoft and OpenAI’s definition of artificial intelligence. Contrary to expectations, companies have associated the criteria for AI with a more pragmatic and profit-oriented metric rather than technical and philosophical approaches.
According to the report, in the agreement between Microsoft and OpenAI, the AI systems developed by OpenAI are expected to generate at least 100 billion dollars in profit. This contrasts with the industry’s long-standing, talent-driven and more idealistic goals for AI.
The profit-centered definition also has important consequences. OpenAI, which is expected to lose billions of dollars this year, informed investors that it will not be profitable before 2029. This means that under the terms of the current agreement, Microsoft will have access to OpenAI’s models for another 10 years.
