Microsoft continues to cancel old applications integrated into Windows. The company, which previously removed the Movies and Maps apps from Windows 11, is now taking over two more apps. Accordingly, Calendar and Mail apps will be canceled.
Mail and Calendar apps are being removed for Windows 11
Microsoft has announced that Mail and Calendar will stop working as standalone apps. It announced plans to remove the two apps from Windows 11 with an update to be released at the end of 2024.
According to Microsoft’s post, no updates will be released for Mail and Calendar. On December 31, the software giant will discontinue official support and will also remove the apps from the Microsoft Store. The company urges users to switch to Outlook.
A release date range has been given for Paralives, which is seen as one of the strongest competitors to The Sims.
Microsoft didn’t give a clear warning, but starting in the coming weeks, users may see some messages in their Mail and Calendar apps. Some warnings may be shown that the official support of these applications will end and turn into Outlook.
The software giant said that Outlook will be pre-installed on computers released in 2024. In this context, the need for Calendar and Mail will be eliminated.
Microsoft also stated that these two applications will be kept open until next year. So if you don’t want to switch to Outlook, you will still have access to Mail and Calendar. However, the lack of official support may create security vulnerabilities in the applications.
Mail and Calendar were first introduced in Windows 8. They have long served as simple and basic options for many users. However, Microsoft wants to end support and move to new applications with Windows 11.
