Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that artificial intelligence plays an important role in the company’s software development processes. According to Nadella, 20% to 30% of the codes that make up Microsoft’s software are currently written by artificial intelligence. This rate has revealed the extent to which automation has reached in software production.

Artificial intelligence is used effectively, especially in repetitive, data-driven and predictable tasks. This approach has led to a decrease in entry-level software developer positions and an increase in corporate efficiency.

However, in order to avoid problems, the codes created by artificial intelligence are still supervised by experienced developers. Artificial intelligence models used in code production exhibit varying success rates in different programming languages.
According to the information provided by Nadella, the Python language offers more successful results in terms of artificial intelligence production. In contrast, automation of lower-level languages such as C/C++ is considered more difficult. C++ increases the importance of human control in critical areas such as memory management.
Microsoft’s chief technology officer Kevin Scott also shared his long-term expectations for AI-driven software development. According to Scott, by 2030, 95% of the code used in software will be produced by AI.
This prediction indicates that software engineering will largely be replaced by automation. These developments have also brought about concerns about job security among software developers across the industry.
