Dark Mode, first announced by Microsoft in 2016 with Windows 10, hasn’t been fully implemented over the years. Many parts of the operating system still appear to be a complex combination of light and dark themes. After nearly a decade, Microsoft has begun introducing more dark interface elements in the latest preview version of Windows 11 with its improvements.
File Operations in Windows 11 Are Now in Dark Mode
A change noticed by Windows Watcher in the latest preview version of Windows 11 shows that dialog boxes related to file operations are now displayed in a dark theme. Windows that open during file copying or deleting operations will now appear in dark mode, rather than light mode, even if you’re using dark mode.
It’s worth noting that this feature is still in development. Furthermore, the fact that the buttons on these windows still appear in a light theme indicates that the work is not complete. A full dark mode is expected in future updates.
Microsoft hasn’t officially announced these improvements to Windows 11’s dark mode yet, but these changes could be introduced with the 25H2 update, expected towards the end of the year. Reportedly, interface elements like the Control Panel, Run dialog, and file properties will still appear in light mode.
Still, don’t expect too much from this. It took Microsoft a few years to even add dark mode to File Explorer in Windows 10.
