Software giants aim to provide a better experience to their users by updating their products. However, these updates do not always meet the expectations of users. Accordingly, Microsoft created controversy with the announcement that it will terminate support for classic Windows Mail, Calendar and Contacts applications.

Windows Mail, Calendar and Contacts will be cancelled

Microsoft has announced that it will end support for Windows Mail, Calendar and Contacts on 31 December 2024. This means that even if users continue to use the old applications, they will not be able to send and receive e-mails after the specified date.

According to Microsoft’s updated support documents, the company aims to migrate users to the new Outlook for Windows application. After the support period, the old UWP (Universal Windows Platform) versions of Mail, Calendar and Contacts will not be able to perform e-mail and calendar functions.

Microsoft; stated that the new Outlook application offers the best features for free. However, many users are not satisfied with this forced transition. The updated Outlook is criticised for being both slow and a web-based application. It is also disliked for having a different interface compared to classic Windows applications.

The closure of the old Windows Mail, Calendar and Contacts applications means that users will need to find alternative solutions to manage their e-mails, calendars and contacts at the end of the year. Microsoft also said it will migrate user data before the applications’ deadline.
