Cybersecurity giant CrowdStrike is preparing to answer to the US Congress in the wake of last July’s software update disaster that led to global IT outages. Adam Meyers, the company’s Senior Vice President of Adversarial Operations, will testify before a House of Representatives Subcommittee on Tuesday, September 24.
Microsoft is expected to lose the case
The Texas-based company’s faulty software update for devices running Windows crippled the IT systems of many businesses around the world, including airlines, airports, banks, healthcare organizations and retailers. It was the biggest software bug in the industry’s history, and Microsoft is said to have mishandled the process poorly.
George Kurtz, founder and CEO of CrowdStrike, apologized publicly after the outage, stating that the problem was quickly identified and resolved. Kurtz explained that the incident was caused by a flaw in the Windows update, not a cyber attack.
