Almost two decades after its initial release, Halo 2 returns. Thanks to a project developed by fans of the series, the servers of the series will be reopened. This will enable the revival of Halo 2 multiplayer.
Players open servers for Halo 2 Multiplayer
The Xbox Live service, which was accessible with the first Xbox console, has been redeveloped by some gamers. The project named Project Insignia announced that it will open a server for Halo 2 as of today. In this way, players who own the iconic game will once again be able to participate in online matches in modes such as Team Slayer.
Xbox Live support for Xbox consoles was discontinued by Microsoft in 2010. This decision meant that the multiplayer mode would be closed in important games of the period such as Halo 2, Star Wars: Battlefront II and Phantasy Star Online.
Insignia aims to bring back the multiplayer experience by copying Xbox Live’s infrastructure. According to preliminary information, more than 10 thousand Xbox users have registered with Insignia to access nearly 200 games.
Although the numbers are still small, project leaders believe that this figure will grow with the new game. It is possible to access Halo 2 through official options such as Master Chief Collection. However, you cannot play multiplayer because the game’s online servers are down. Insignia offers an alternative way for those who want to try the game.
