The remote access software giant TeamViewer is currently embroiled in allegations of a security breach in one of its IT networks. The company recently confirmed in a statement that its security team detected an ‘irregularity’ in one of its networks but refrained from commenting on the severity of the situation. Could the data of millions of users be at risk? Here are the details…
TeamViewer officially confirms the attack
TeamViewer, one of the world’s most well-known remote management, web conferencing, and desktop sharing platforms that integrates with many different websites, is facing tough times. In an official statement on June 26, 2024, the renowned company confirmed that an irregularity was detected in its servers, which is highly likely to be a hacker attack.
The situation was first detected last Wednesday in TeamViewer’s corporate IT network. The company stated that cybersecurity experts immediately intervened and took action with support from different units.
In the statement, the company claims that neither individual nor corporate customer data was stolen. However, the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) advised users to immediately change their passwords and report any unusual activity they detect.
Given the number of TeamViewer users, this situation is quite alarming and serious. However, this is not the first hack attack the company has faced. In a 2016 hack, users’ accounts were compromised from the company’s servers, causing significant trouble for the company.
