Intel Lunar Lake promises 100 TOPS of AI processing
Intel said the new chip will deliver more than 100 trillion operations per second (TOPS) for AI operations, of which 45 TOPS will be processed by the NPU. This represents a three-fold increase in AI performance compared to the Meteor Lake series, which achieves a maximum of 10 TOPS from the NPU.
More importantly, according to Intel, it meets the 45 TOPS NPU benchmark for next-generation AI computers. While Intel did not break down the contributions of the CPU and GPU, industry estimates suggest that the GPU can perform around 50 TOPS and the CPU 5-10 TOPS.

In this context, the Lunar Lake series promises significant advantages in terms of on-device AI power. For example, AMD said its next-generation Strix Point mobile chips will offer up to 3x the AI performance compared to Ryzen.
Qualcomm also stands out with the Snapdragon X Elite, which it plans to launch in the coming months. This Arm-based chip promises 45 TOPS NPU and 75 TOPS total performance.
Intel wants to create an advantage in the field of artificial intelligence with its Lunar Lake series, which is scheduled to debut in the second half of this year. The company aims to sell 40 million AI computers this year alone and 100 million by 2025.
